What is Le Futur Antérieur?

Le futur antérieur is used to say that one action will be completed before another future action.

Simple Rule

👉 Structure:

Subject + avoir/être (in futur simple) + past participle

Examples:

• J’aurai fini mes devoirs avant 8 heures.

• Elle sera arrivée à l’école avant la cloche.

When do we use it?

Use it when you want to say:

• “will have done”

• One future action happens before another future action.

Example (Indian student context):

• Quand tu arriveras au coaching, j’aurai déjà révisé le chapitre de maths.
  (When you arrive at coaching, I will already have revised the maths chapter.)

Common Mistake

❌ Je vais fini mes devoirs.
❌ J’aurai finis mes devoirs.

✅ J’aurai fini mes devoirs.

Why?

• After aurai / sera / auront, use the past participle, not infinitive.

• With avoir, most past participles do not agree: fini, not finis.
